Colonial Williamsburg

On our trip back from Norfolk we spent a sunny day in Colonial Williamsburg. We had a wonderful time taking in the historically preserved homes and town. People dress in costume and really give you a feel of what it was like before the Revolutionary War.

Our favorite part was the tour of the George Wythe house. Mr. Wythe was Thomas Jefferson's teacher and mentor. This is the original home that dates back to the 1730s.

One of the rooms inside the George Wythe home- rich colonial colors display the families wealth. Love the map above the fireplace.

The back of the Governor's Palace has extensive maze gardens.

For families, they have a scavenger hunt that gives you clues on where to go throughout Williamsburg. Once you find a clue you have to text in your answer to get the next clue. Nothing gets you in the spirit of Colonial times like texting.

Darcy, is that you?

Great day!

Norfolk Botanical Garden

We loved going to this Botanical Garden- which was mostly outside. The grounds were extensive and the girls had fun running all throughout the area. They had a great children's garden as well. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting.

Norfolk, VA trip Aquarium

For the girl's Spring break we headed to Norfolk,VA where Steve was working on a ship. Instead of coming back to his lonely hotel he was surrounded by his gaggle of girls. We had a great time while he was working we went to the Aquarium and had a tour of a NOAA ship that he's been working on, and we went to a beautiful Botanical Garden. Here are some pictures of the Aquarium.

Shark Attack!

We saw sharks.

Hi harbor seals!

Now, we're off to the hotel pool! Yea Spring break!

A Baby Shower

My good friend and neighbor, Lindsay is having her fifth child very soon. She was in need of a good celebration. I had a great time decorating and getting ready for her shower. Here are some of the pictures of the party-

Bailey and Lilly helped me make this diaper cake. They were so confused when I said I was making a diaper cake, but after I explained that you don't eat it and its a decoration they were on board.

I'm grateful for a good friend. We are all excited for her and her family.

The Blue Buffet

I'm starting to get into thrifting. What a thrill to see potential in a piece of furniture that looks a little shabby and then transform it and update it. I recently bought this small buffet at a Good Will store for $12(yes- I was ready to do cartwheels). I also got the botanical print above it for a few dollars (yippee!). I was ready for a project. Here's the look of it now-

Here's what she looked like before- (WaWa)

The basement is getting an update too. This was the state of affairs during another one of 'mom's crazy project modes' with Bailey and Lilly watching a movie. I painted the buffet while they hung out nearby. Steve and I also painted over our red basement walls and stayed with a neutral base called Rope, by Eddie Bauer.

I used Valspar's Peacock Blue and spray painted the knobs and pulls a gold.

I'm happy to have a refreshing look.

D.C Cherry Blossoms

Since we've all had a warm spring the cherry blossom trees in D.C bloomed early. Some friends and our girls went to the have a picnic near the cherry blossoms and then we went to the fantastic National Museum of American History. We had a great day and I didn't even get lost coming out of D.C which was a miracle for me.

Here's the crew of kids- I guess it looks like we have our own little school group.

We also toured the Jefferson Memorial.

We had our picnic on the grounds of the Washington monument. Lauren is in a phase where she doesn't always want her photo taken, but of course right before she was all smiles sitting on the rock wall. Maybe I'll get her next time.

Easter

This past week has been Spring break for the girls so we went to Norfolk, VA and Williamsburg for a family trip ( more pictures of that to come). On Easter we went to church and enjoyed a wonderful service there. Then, we went to Aunt Jeannine and Uncle Leon's place for an Easter meal and egg hunt.

Bailey is showing off her chocolate bunny that she won from the egg hunt.

Lilly found one of the coveted golden eggs during the egg hunt and also won a chocolate bunny.

Jeannine and Leon- oh we love you!

We visited Heather and Pat's charming new home they recently bought. What a great couple!

Jeannine's beautiful flowers from her garden. She has quite the green thumb of the family.

Happy Easter! Hope yours was a great day.
